FDR once said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."  I believe this to be true.  Each of us will have our own reactions to a convicted sex offender moving into our neighborhood, based on our own experiences and lens by which we see the world, and we may not all agree.  What I hope is that we can all have as much knowledge of Mr. Dority and his situation as possible, so that our opinions are deeply informed and we can respond with prudence, wisdom, and respect.

----- end of update -----

Lots of news about this lately.  Learn more at the public meeting on Dority's release from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 285 Dale St. N in St. Paul.

Thanks, Aaron, for collecting all this info. As you know, my husband John McNulty and I live at 529 Ashland, right across the street from Reentry Ashland, at 532 Ashland, where this man will live. When we moved here in the summer of 2013 we had no idea this was a halfway house. We talked to our neighbors when we learned that it was and discovered that none of them had ever had any problem with its residents. That has been our experience too. There is no noise, no littering, no prowling around, no scaring the neighbors. It is a very well-run operation.
While I agree that the crimes Mr. Dority committed were terrible, and I don't plan to ask him over for coffee, I am not worried about his moving in. I expect that the natural aging process, having done 15 years hard time and having spent 5 years at the State Security Hospital have knocked all the violence out of him. Plus, I'm sure he knows that if he does anything out of line the powers that be will revoke his provisional release and he will return to the hellhole that is the State Security Hospital. I worry more about the miscreants the cops haven't caught up with yet than the ones in this halfway house. As I told you and the other Board members, after he moves in we will still let our 8 year old great granddaughter Audrey take our toy poodle (who is no protection) for walks around the neighborhood.

So well said, Marcy. I too will continue to walk around our beautiful neighborhood without fear. A special thank you to Aaron Gjerty, our new president, for keeping us so well-informed.

There are several level 3 living on the 200 block of Dayton Ave. This must also be a half-way house. I don't know why this one offender has caused such a commotion, I suppose because it relates to the lawsuit. But there are several others living around the neighborhood. Don't be afraid, but be aware. https://coms.doc.state.mn.us/Level3/
