The Summit Avenue Residential Preservation Association (SARPA) and the Ramsey Hill Association (RHA) will be hosting an interesting and informative talk on The Legendary Commodore Hotel presented by Professor Kristin Anderson.
In its century of service, the Commodore Hotel has seen more than its share of excitement: as a home for Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald, as the site of a prohibition-era speakeasy and a famed Art Deco bar, and in its survival and rebirth after a devastating explosion. Using research and images from the personal collection of a long-time resident, we’ll look back at the Commodore’s origins and early use, and then trace the building’s changes over the last one hundred years.
WHO: Dr. Anderson is a recently retired Professor of Art History at Augsburg University. She has taught courses on the history of Summit Avenue. She is the past chair of the Minnesota State Review Board for National Register of Historic Places designations and has served as the president of the state chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (MNSAH). She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Parking: Street Parking is available on Summit Avenue and Milton Avenue. The parking lot behind the church is a paid lot, please follow posted instructions to pay in those spaces
