Lecture: 7:00

60 N Kent St

St. Paul

The Summit Avenue Residential Preservation Association (SARPA) and the Ramsey Hill Association (RHA) will be hosting an interesting and informative talk on The Tudors of Summit Avenue presented by Professor Kristin Anderson.

Based on architectural features from the late medieval and Renaissance eras in Great Britain and on the European continent, the Tudor style we know today was re-imagined and popularized by British designers in the late 19th century. It didn’t take long for this style to spread to the United States—and to find a home in St. Paul. From churches and mansions to cottages and bungalows, you can see numerous examples of the popular and enduring Tudor style along Summit and neighboring streets, and we will explore that amazing variety in this presentation.

WHO: Dr.  Anderson is a recently retired Professor of Art History at Augsburg University. She has taught courses on the history of Summit Avenue. She is the past chair of the Minnesota State Review Board for National Register of Historic Places designations and has served as the president of the state chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (MNSAH). She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
