Historic District Property Owners

CALL TO ACTION!

Unless we fight proposed changes, the Historic Preservation Commission wants:

  • Massive fee increase ($500 review, $400 appeal)
  • Bureaucratic overreach (interiors, gardens)
  • Strict Aesthetic Standards
  • Criminal Fines for “improper” upkeep

COME TO THE MEETING TO SHARE YOUR CONCERNS

Also, write to Commissioner Dai Thao and Mayor Carter!

Your Ramsey Hill Association opposes these changes.

In the late 70s and early 80s, RHA & SHA helped establish the HPC by working together with neighbors and others to draft the initial guidelines.  An RHA brochure in 1975 said, “Some fear the idea of an Historic District, thinking it will mean strict aesthetic standards.  Our local guidelines were specifically and intentionally designed to NOT align with the National Standards because we needed more flexibility to make preservation decisions that were part of a community and economic development strategy that has largely been successful. RHA believes the primary problems to be solved at the HPC are that permit applications need to be processed more expediently along more flexible and reasonable guidelines.
